                                     La Plata Field School
Welcome!
We are a non-traditional education and service-learning organization based in Southwestern Colorado.

It is the mission of La Plata Field School to offer exceptional, fun and challenging outdoor, service learning and art programs for middle and high school students in order to help them develop into happy, healthy and adventurous young people.

We achieve our mission through guiding our next generation in building cross-cultural relationships, knowledge, self-esteem, courage and leadership to impact the world for the benefit of all.
Inspired by the best educational practices including experiential, social justice and Waldorf philosophies, we provide middle and high school youth opportunities to be challenged and thrive in the outdoor environment, give back to others through service work and to engage in creative self-expression through the arts.

La Plata Field aligns with ideals expressed by Rudolf Steiner in his work in Waldorf Education: "Our highest endeavor is to develop free-thinking human beings who are able,  out of themselves, to impart purpose and direction to their lives."

Our long term goal is to offer a High School Semester for students in 9th-12th grades. Currently we offer weeklong community service programs and outdoor expeditions designed to your school's goals as well as 3-4 week block programs customized for Waldorf Schools.
A new program this spring is our Theater Project. This program will be offered  to students 9-12 and 13-19, as two 6 session classes in theater  and acting performance. (See current programs).
It is the continuing aim of La Plata Field School to provide to students from Montezuma County, Colorado, increased access to outdoor  adventures including backpacking, a river program, service projects and creative arts courses such as drama, dance and film making.

While our programs can be physically demanding, including physical work,  hiking, boating, and extreme weather conditions, we do our best to accommodate students with some levels of physical disabilities. Please inquire further.
